The Lazarus Consultancy

The Lazarus Consultancy founder, Jeremy Lazarus, has the vision of a world where everyone wants to belong. He believes this can be achieved by giving every child the opportunity to reach their potential. A key factor is having excellent teachers who know how to communicate brilliantly.

They work to achieve this by offering coaching, accredited coach training courses and recognised communication, influencing and personal effectiveness skills courses. All of which have significant Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) elements.

The accreditation for their coach training courses is via both the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), and the Association for Coaching (AC). Their Communication skills courses are recognised by the ILM. Their coach training courses range from Introductory level all the way to ILM Level 7.

Impact

Impact to date

Since 1999, The Lazarus Consultancy has delivered over 350 programmes to more than 3000 people which include a growing number of teachers and school leaders.

Feedback from school leaders, collected by CPDBee, demonstrates the programmes improved their personal effectiveness and communication skills and helped them to coach colleagues in their own contexts.

Impact measurements used

Lazarus coaching and NLP courses are highly experiential and involve a lot of practice and feedback. They monitor their impact through close observation and precise feedback during sessions. Discussions during the courses enable Lazarus to gauge progress and learning.

Participants record their reflections and action plans after each episode of a programme. Depending on the course, there are elements of assessment participants need to complete. These ensure the skills being taught have been learned and enables Lazarus to assess whether participants pass the course in line with pre-agreed learning criteria

At the end of courses, they use feedback forms to measure the quality of their programmes and collect qualitative feedback.

External assessment of impact

The Lazarus Consultancy has not yet had an independent, external evaluation of their impact.

Expertise

Programme design philosophy

The Lazarus Consultancy draws on research about how people learn to design their programmes. They ensure there is a balance between learning through doing, understanding theory, applying to context and reflecting. They also apply the 4MAT system which helps explore the meaning (the ‘why?’), concepts (the ‘what?’), skills (the ‘how?’) and adaptions (the ‘what ifs?’).

All their courses follow a similar process. First, why a topic or technique is useful is explored. Second, the relevant theory and research are presented. Third, an expert demonstration of the technique is given. Fourth, groups practice the technique so they can experience it both as the coach and the coachee. Fifth, the group take part in a question and answer session to discuss their experiences, including how to use what they have learned in their own context. Finally, participants log what they have learned in their handbooks.

Elements that make Lazarus courses stand out are that they are highly practical, there is no guarantee that delegates will pass as they must meet very high standards and they are recognised by both the Institute of Leadership and Management and Association for Coaching.

Team experience and expertise

Lazarus Consultancy CPDBeeThe Lazarus Consultancy has two main trainers, Jeremy Lazarus and Melanie Richens, who deliver their programmes alongside a small number of assistant facilitators, who observe the practical exercises and give feedback.

Jeremy, the lead trainer, is a highly experienced and qualified coach. Coaching professionally since 2009, he is a former finance director, who has become a Mater Executive Coach, an assessor for the Association for Coaching and has an MA in Coaching and NLP. So, he can draw on thousands of hours of coaching and has huge credibility. But what sets him apart is his passion for education and his belief that an education system filled with teachers and leaders with the very best communication skills can transform children’s life chances. He wants this to be part of his legacy.

Melanie, a former lawyer, is a highly qualified coach, who is ILM approved and an accredited NLP Trainer. The course assistant facilitators are all NLP Mater Practitioners, Trainers or are trained and experienced coaches.

Testimonials

Brooklands Farm Primary School, Maxine Low, Executive Head

Lazarus Consultancy is an outstanding provider of nationally accredited coaching, NLP courses which support the bridge that needs to be created between business and education.

They are extremely skilled facilitators that know how to balance the needs of a group to ensure everyone learns. Highly recommended.

I learned in six days what it has taken me 20 years in headship to learn through experience. I wish this had been available to me when I was first a leader. I believe it would have made my job as a head teacher achievable.

I plan to make this training essential for every emerging leader in our organisation.

Harris Primary Academy Purley Way & Ruth Miskin, Sam Dholakia, Former Deputy Head & Literacy Consultant and Trainer

The Lazarus Consultancy ILM7 training was great and has really got me started off on good footing with my coaching.

Jeremy used clear and purposeful examples to develop people’s understanding. He drew upon his experiences to talk about and demonstrate how coaching can be effective. He trained us with a good range on a broad range of tools to use and provided us with adequate time to practise these with each other. He is engaging, approachable and always happy to help with any questions.

I have been providing coaching to a number of people based on the skills he taught me and have had great feedback. I thoroughly enjoyed his course and I found it not only helped me with my work but also the way in which I communicate with myself

Daniel Weiner Coaching, Daniel Weiner, Former Headteacher and Executive Coach

I’m a former headteacher now pursuing a career in coaching. Having done my initial research I attended the ILM7 Executive Coaching & Mentoring course run by the Lazarus Consultancy.

The course was well organised and communication was prompt and business-like on all occasions. The course programme was thorough, and the training has given me a good foundation to take the next steps towards setting up my own coaching consultancy.

The content of the course was stimulating and well-delivered. There were opportunities to learn and practice a range of coaching techniques, and plenty of time for reflection, discussions and questions.

Jeremy is a very knowledgable and expert trainer. He achieves a good balance of introducing new ideas, strategies and techniques, and at the same time challenging perceptions, creating confidence and ensuring all participants are thoroughly engaged in their learning.

There is good ‘after-sales’ care and a commitment to support those attending the course throughout the completion of the certificate, including ongoing supervision through the coaching practice and assignments.

Course materials are good. Since the completion of the face to face modules, I have worked with senior leaders in schools, university, health, local authority and business and the feedback from my clients has been excellent.
