Impact

Impact to date

Since 2017, Mal has worked with schools, Multi Academy Trusts, Teaching School Alliances, The Institute of Education and WomenEd to develop teachers and leaders.

Feedback from school leaders collected by CPDBee shows they are now embedding the coaching practices she has trained them on to improve teaching. Her clients’ testimonials say training is transforming professional learning and dialogue between staff and helping the school to reinvigorate reflective proactive and raise the overall quality of provision in the school.

Impact measurements used

Mal aims to improve school leadership, staff wellbeing and morale by improving coaching skills in schools. She measures the impact of her work in several ways at different stages of her input calling on different stakeholders.

Immediately after each session, participants complete an evaluation form which captures participant learning and action plans. Head teachers and CEOs also complete a feedback form.

Her action planning tools encourage participants to identify a line manager who can support them to achieve their targets.

One month after sessions, she monitors her lasting impact using an online survey. For her programmes introducing coaching skills, she works closely with school leaders to inspect teaching and learning data and student outcome data.

External assessment of impact

MalCPD has not yet had an independent, external evaluation of her impact.

Expertise

Programme design philosophy

10 years of leadership and teacher training and her own coaching qualifications have led Mal to her key design principles.

She believes it is essential that participants understand why they are being provided this training, how it fits with the school and with their own professional development plans, and ultimately how it will impact on student outcomes.

Her training is practical and engaging; it incorporates a variety of activities, which includes both collaborative work and individual reflection time.

During participant reflection, she ensures participants set goals based on their learning. When working with schools over a longer period of time she ensures they revisit these goals, so they gain new habits after her training.

She ensures that examples are based on the participant’s context. For example, ensuring that the school context is considered when giving examples to ensure learning ‘sticks’.

She gathers feedback during the sessions, after the session and even a month after the session, which helps her adapt and improve her provision.

Her provision stands out from others as the Institute of Leadership & Management has endorsed MalCPD as an ILM provider and participants who complete her two coaching courses will receive an ILM recognised certificate.

Team experience and expertise

MalCPD Programme Leader CPDBee With 10 years’ experience of school leadership and teacher training, Mal has worked in several school leadership teams. Most notably she has overseen the professional development of 200 staff across six schools and two phases as a Senior Assistant Principal at a large multi academy trust in west London.

She also has several years’ experience working with the Institute of Education as a facilitator of the National Professional Qualifications. Having designed high quality coaching programmes in schools, she now designs and delivers them for schools as an Institute of leadership and Management approved provider.

Testimonials

St Thomas Garnet's School, Craig Lickley, Headteacher

Mal has acted very professionally throughout her support in the school. Her delivery of coaching to staff at a whole school level has been informative and engaging. Her materials have provided good records of the work done and she clearly has a very understanding of the areas of inset she delivers. Staff feedback has been very good, with an impact evident across the school. Worthwhile CPD.

Anonymous college in Reading, Anonymous, Headteacher

Mal is an excellent teacher and trainer, she always formed above and beyond the standard expectations.

North Bridge House Prep School, Jacqueline Job, Deputy Headteacher

I would absolutely recommend Mal to colleagues.

Her planning is excellent and her delivery is engaging. She has delivered leadership training and leadership coaching across the three primary schools and four secondary schools in our trust. She has also coordinated INSETs for our beginning teachers. Feedback from staff is always excellent.

What she delivers and aims to achieve is realistic. She provides participants with practical examples and resources to take away and hit the ground running, which is ace.

We are already planning a leadership and coaching programme with her for next year to help support our Middle teachers’ wellbeing as well as their skillsets.

Stockley Academy, James Bate, Deputy Head of Humanities

The style I learnt in the coaching programme was to help guide colleagues to the right approach rather than to dictate the correct method. I found this process particularly useful in becoming more reflective as a practitioner, something in which I encourage all my colleagues to develop.

Anonymus School, Senior leader

Mal is an outstanding professional career coach and mentor, providing colleagues with bespoke solutions focussed on their situations & aspirations. She is absolutely reliable & from my experience, often exceeds what is expected of her.
