Lifeflowbalance Coaching and Consulting

Lifeflowbalance’s vision is one where leaders are proactive in shaping the world rather than being overwhelmed by the pace and changing nature of it. They see a world where leaders are more psychologically disposed to appreciate and nurture diversity and inclusion rather than seeing change and difference as a threat.

They use coaching based on the fields of human philosophy, psychology, neurobiology, systems theory and mindfulness to help individuals and organisations live and lead authentically, with meaning and purpose so that behaviours are aligned with values that enhance wellbeing and effectiveness.

They offer: Executive Coaching for headteachers and governing bodies; Leadership Development through coaching, training courses and workshops; and Leadership Team and Group Coaching. They offer wellbeing coaching and workshops teaching mindful self-leadership and stress management. They have also developed a six-module course for in-house coaches and line managers using the Association for Coaching Competency Framework for professional coaches.

Impact

Impact to date

Over the past few years Lifeflowbalance has worked with schools, Multi Academy Trusts, Teaching School Alliances and the high-profile education charities – Teach First and Ambition School Leadership – to develop approximately 100 teachers and leaders.

Feedback from school leaders, collected by CPDBee, shows the benefits of their work include: improved productivity, greater strength, looking at situations more critically, better prioritising of workload, staying calmer in stressful situations and better understanding of the steps needed to lead on initiatives.

Impact measurements used

Lifeflowbalance aim to help individuals and organisations, live and lead authentically, with meaning and purpose so that behaviours are aligned with values that enhance and promote wellbeing and effectiveness.

They measure their impact through a combination of client goal reviews, client feedback, testimonials and case studies.

During engagements, they use scaling questions (out of 10) to assess clients’ learning and readiness for change against agreed goals.

Following engagements, they collect feedback that measures the actual results of learning evidenced in action plans. This also identifies areas that clients will continue to work on independently of the relationship.

Feedback about the quality of their service (for e.g. if the service outcomes are in line with the clients’ needs) is collected independently by the Society of Education Consultants (SEC) of which they are an accredited member.

External assessment of impact

Lifeflowbalance has not yet had an independent, external evaluation of their impact.

Expertise

Programme design philosophy

Lifelflowbalance take a research-based approach to designing their programmes. They draw heavily on positive psychology, neurobiological applications to coaching, cognitive behavioral psychology, mindfulness, wellbeing and how strengths-based coaching can be used to create transformational leadership.

All their programmes begin with a consultation with school leaders to design a bespoke solution. They use clear contracting procedures that help them create a good fit between their clients’ needs and the coaching or training being delivered. They use questionnaires prior to delivery to fully understand the views and needs of individuals and teams and to cater for them.

Tools they use with individuals during delivery include 360-degree feedback, leadership style assessments and strengths profile assessments. Tools they use when working with teams can include organisational wellbeing health checks and senior leadership team health checks.

They also build in frequent formal and informal feedback, which is used to adjust the programmes. They negotiate the form of impact measurement which is most meaningful to the clients.

She gets good feedback from her sessions and supported the Diverse Leaders group for the Diversity Grant we led across the GLF and Harris TSA.

Rushcliffe School, Simon Peel, Assistant Headteacher

I had 3 one to one sessions and a group session. The sessions were extremely useful to develop me for my new role into senior leadership because Charmaine had a vast array of knowledge, shared within the sessions and later through e-mails. She was also very patient, calm but skilled in making sure that the sessions were personal but effective.

I have a lot to thanks Charmaine for and will be forever in her debt.

City Academy, Birmingham, Joshua Gershwin-Williams, Assistant Head Teacher

I have always found that Charmaine takes a very professional approach to all that she does. Her systematic approach really helps to ensure that you get the most out of each session. The training is delivered via a range of mediums to suit you. Through my work with Charmaine, I have grown in my leadership role, and I am more confident in what I do.

Rushcliffe School, Trent Academies Trust, Steve Lewis, Headteacher

Working with [Lifeflowbalance’s] Charmaine gave us a renewed clarity. Having someone who is aware of our roles and responsibilities but does not have all the baggage enables a new set of eyes to observe things that may well be obscured from the team itself. The team coaching was a real insight and thought-provoking.
