Impact

Impact to date

In 10 years, Integrity has worked with over 100 schools, delivered 10 ILM accredited coaching skills programmes and developed over 100 school leaders. They estimate that this has helped them reach over 3000 students.

Their clients’ self-report testimonials published by Integrity show that they have helped school leaders: grow others, become more efficient, increase their confidence and self-belief, feel better, lead better, lengthen their tenure and even improve pupil progress and school Ofsted grades.

Feedback from their clients, collected by CPDBee, reveals that their support has helped them to: overcome obstacles they faced, feel refreshed and empowered, improve the authenticity and confidence in their leadership; and develop coaching cultures in their own schools.

Impact measurements used

Integrity aims to help school leaders excel in overcoming the challenges of their roles and to keep hold of their humanity, joy and love for the profession and the communities they serve.

They measure the impact of their 1:1 coaching using an evaluation form which assesses the extent to which the coaching enabled clients to: identify problem solving solutions, feel motivated, reflect on their practice and leadership behaviours, clarify their direction/thinking and plan a way forward. It also assesses the impact the coaching has had on their clients’ professional roles during the process and whether there were any other benefits.

Their ILM coach training programme -‘Coaching to Maximise Staff Performance’- aims to teach the core coaching skills which enable participants to: manage difficult conversations; get the best out of others; facilitate better team work; and manage relationships better. The programme’s impact is monitored through observation and feedback during practical exercises, through programme assignment assessment and feedback, and through the associated action plans for developing coaching in their schools that individuals complete in relation to their school’s priorities.

Integrity also takes the time to collect qualitative feedback in the form of client testimonials and carry out in depth case studies.

External assessment of impact

In partnership with the National Education Union (NEU), Integrity Coaching are delivering fully funded 1:1 coaching for head teachers. The NEU are carrying out an evaluation of the programme’s impact for publication in early 2019.

Expertise

Programme design philosophy

Integrity’s services are designed by working closely with schools to ensure they are bespoke to their needs. Their programme design and delivery are shaped by three core values.

Commitment: they are committed to the promise of all children’s lives. They believe success is achieved through a shared understanding of the powerful role holistic and person-focused education plays in helping children fulfil their promise.

Innovation: by its very nature coaching supports innovation, creativity and the creation of cultures that are closely linked to a school’s vision. They work with schools to develop powerful learning that is supported by key relationships that help release creative energy for positive change.

Collaboration: they believe success is achieved through collaboration that brings together the knowledge and expertise of schools and their coaches.

These values also determine how they apply the principles of Kolb’s Learning Cycle. They use it as a framework for understanding what happens when adults are engaged in learning and change. They use it to ensure their clients gain deeper understanding of new experiences, extrapolate new meaning from their personal reflections on the experience, and devise and experiment with new behaviours.

Team experience and expertise

Integrity’s 10-member team understand the challenges of senior leadership. They have all been senior leaders themselves. The majority in education. They are all experienced, expert and qualified coaches. They have strong track records and hold qualifications from the most prestigious coaching organisations in the world including the AoEC and the ICF.

Their team is made up of former head teachers and charity CEOs, school governors and occupational psychologists. Key members of the team are leading lights in the fields of Transactional Analysis and Coaching. Many are local and even national leaders in the related areas of expertise.

Testimonials

Woodlands Primary School, Jane Woods, Headteacher

I took part in coaching sessions with Viv Grant, founder of Integrity Coaching two years ago. As head teacher, I’m sure you’ll appreciate that it can be a very lonely job. Coaching sessions with Integrity (Viv) therefore gave me the time and space to reflect, reconnect with my core values and find solutions to the everyday hurdles and obstacles I faced.

I found the sessions with Viv, very focused and extremely empowering. They were driven entirely by my own needs and agenda; and were therefore fit for purpose and relevant.

Viv was always very flexible and also very skilled at getting me to challenge my own thinking. She was skilled at listening and asking the right questions at the right time; and also allowing me time to process my own thoughts and ideas.

Each coaching session took me on a journey; sometimes exhausting, but always leaving me feeling refreshed, empowered and raring to go again, having made sense and found solutions to the issues I’d raised!

Viv was very professional – I felt that I could tell her anything without fear of being judged. Talking to her felt safe – her own experience as a head teacher made her sensitive to the issues and demands of the job; she understood and was passionate about supporting me. Her skills and knowledge are excellent.

Sessions with Viv inspired me and I went on to complete ISLM Level 5 coaching training myself and have gone on to develop a coaching culture within my own school. Coaching has opened my eyes to what I believe, is true professional development. It’s tailor-made, specific and secures buy-in from the person being coached.

Coaching with Integrity has been the best form of professional development I have ever taken part in. I have recommended Integrity Coaching to several colleagues who have also had the opportunity to be coached by Viv and have been just as inspired as I have.

Marlborough Primary School, Geraldine Foley, Headteacher

I was very fortunate to be involved in the NUT national pilot of providing leadership coaching for Headteachers. I received six two hour coaching sessions between September 2016 to July 2017.

I found the whole process incredibly uplifting and it has impacted significantly not only on my professional vitality but also more widely on my personal life. My coach gave me a safe space to explore my leadership and my impact in sustaining a culture of high expectations and standards. My coach challenged my thinking in a very supportive way and helped me find answers to issues that I was tussling with. My coach was the perfect match for me and I am full of admiration for the way in which matched our personalities to ensure that the coaching as a success.

Michael Tippett College, Marilyn Ross Headteacher, Michael Tippett School and Executive Head

I have so much to say. I simply do not know where to start. Integrity by name, ethos, and practice. The coaching I received and can still access has pushed and support me in so many ways to be able to understand that I can be a school leader and an educational activist without loosing myself and who I am.

Colvestone Primary School, Caroline King, Executive Headteacher

Having worked with Viv for many years the impact of her work and on that of my team has been great. Being able to lead with authenticity and confidence has helped propel me into my role and Viv’s work with my wider team, from TA’s to SLT, has greatly benefitted the setting of the vision and subsequent work. Viv challenges effectively but in a supporting way which leaves you feeling that anything is possible but she also coaches so skilfully that the answers that lie deep within have no option but to surface. Viv’s positivity is infectious and as an Executive Head coaching sessions are centred on the truth within and how one can continually find the ability to improve and develop one’s own self as well as finding ‘the pockets of light’ which will enable the greater picture to be achieved.
