Expertise

Programme design philosophy

By working closely with his client schools Andy identifies what outcomes they want to achieve, he seeks to understand what is already working and what steps are required to make progress towards the outcomes.

He designs programmes that are totally bespoke to schools’ needs and contexts, which are informed by his experience as a former school leader and psychologist. Testimonials

British International School Washington DC, David Rowsell, Associate Director - High Performance Learning

Andy has to be a 10 – I recommend Andy to a great number of the schools I currently work with in my capacity as coach, leadership developer and learning consultant.

In my time I was Headteacher of 3 schools – one here in the UK in south Yorkshire and two overseas (in Prague and Washington DC). In each of these schools I hired Andy on any number of occasions – initially as a consultant on behaviour issues which was his forte back in the 1990s and subsequently as a coaching expert.

In both roles Andy was outstanding – his relaxed, humorous yet robust and practical approach was always welcomed by staff and they were very engaged by the content of coaching workshops. In addition, they were really appreciative of the time he spent with individuals, triads and teams in these schools as we endeavoured to encourage a coaching culture in places where (in particular the two international schools) culture creation was challenging for many reasons, not least the mix of personnel and the level of churn due to short term contracts.

Andy made great, long lasting professional relationships with many of my colleagues – he was super at rapport building. More importantly, the approaches, language and behaviours that he both modeled and taught became almost the lingua franca in each school. This was instrumental in all 3 schools making very significant progress on a number of fronts, not least the collegiality and sense of moral purpose so vital in leading a 21st century school.

On a micro level, very many of my colleagues made great personal progress under Andy’s tutelage and because he advised us also on the kind of structures and systems in which coaching conversations became a valuable way of addressing conflict and finding sustainable solutions to often deep-seated issues. I can recommend him wholeheartedly and without reservation for the opportunity for which he has applied.

Morpeth School, Laura Worsley, Associate Headteacher

We have worked with Andy over a long period of time. He delivered whole school inset for us re. the leadership and management of behaviour over 10 years ago, and then again in October of last year.

Last month we invited him to our residential Middle Leadership Conference where he led the Saturday morning session: ‘Influential conversations- coaching to support development’. Our staff always have very high praise for Andy – for a wide range of reasons. The intellectual input is particularly refreshing (often missing in some CPD) – Andy combines theory and practice in a way that makes any suggested strategies completely credible.

His style of delivery is very engaging: he clearly respects his audience and has a great sense of humour. It is never the common deluge of power points, and always interactive. His impact on our approach has definitely helped to embed effective practice. In terms of organisation, communication etc. I would not fault Andy. He is utterly reliable.

Parliament Hill School, Joy Morgan, Assistant Head

I frequently recommend Andy Vass to other schools, many of whom have used him on my recommendation and been delighted by the quality of work he has provided.

I find Andy reliable, flexible, efficient and diligent. All workshops he has run for Parliament Hill School (a range of topics, including a number of leadership topics) and the Camden-wide NQT programme have been rated ‘excellent’ and NQTs consistently report that his workshop Sanity in the Classroom is extremely useful and one of the most enjoyable workshop of the year.

He copes well with last minute changes or difficulties arising, remaining calm and cheerful. Andy is well-organised, which ensures that planning takes place in a timely manner and is easy to manage.

I recommend him without reservation.

Strood Academy, Kim Gunn, Principal

Andy always tailored his training specifically to our needs.  He is approachable and listens to the outcomes we were wanting to achieve. He has a wealth of knowledge to draw upon which makes the training appropriate and relevant. Delivery was matched to the audiences he worked with and feedback was always extremely positive and we used Andy on a regular basis. I would wholeheartedly recommend Andy to other colleagues.
